Associate Dean for Specialist Registration

Overview of the role

To be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the College’s work related to applications for Specialist Registration via Portfolio Pathway and CCT.

Key responsibilities

Chair the Portfolio Pathway Committee and take responsibility for ensuring the committee complies with its Terms of Reference in determining criteria for applications for Specialist Registration under CESR.

They will work closely with the Head of Training and Workforce, Specialist Registration Manager and Specialist Registration Coordinator to ensure the smooth running of the evaluation process ensuring that work is completed within established timeframes as agreed with the GMC.

Main duties include:

  • Chair the Portfolio Pathway Committee (three meetings per year).
  • Attend the ETC and report any relevant Portfolio Pathway issues
  • Answer queries related to the CESR/Portfolio Pathway process.
  • Work with the Dean and the Director of Professional Standards to ensure that the CESR process is robust and meets requirements.
  • Facilitate CESR Evaluator Training Days.
  • Facilitate Applicant Guidance Sessions
  • Advise on developments and issues pertaining to Portfolio Pathway.
  • Represent the College at relevant Committees, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) and other external organisations.

Person specification

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Detailed knowledge of relevant GMC standards, including ‘’ and current developments.
  • Experience of conducting Portfolio Pathway Evaluations and acting as an Evaluator for the RCPsych within the past two years.
  • Hold approved GMC Educational Supervisor status.
  • Wide experience of working with and developing digital solutions in education
  • Proven leadership experience in educational roles at a national or regional level.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to work in complex systems with colleagues at a high level in the 黄色仓库 and other organisations.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to develop materials to support the development of e-portfolio, especially during the delivery of the new curriculum.
  • Be an effective teacher and leader.
