History of Psychiatry SIG Spring Conference | Paradigms of the Past

Event Information

This conference will look at several ideas and assumptions that in their day seemed irrefutable and dominated practice in psychiatry yet the ideas and practices have now changed.

Attendees can expect to be challenged on the validity of their beliefs about the past and to consider how many of their beliefs on current practice will remain valid in 20 years.

We hope attendees to become more aware of:

  • the importance of recognising the bias behind source materials
  • the importance of contemporary thought and ethos in creating and maintaining beliefs and attitudes within psychiatry
  • the importance of observation of a condition in creating and challenging paradigms.

This meeting will hear from a range of international speakers who are all recognised as experts in their field and who have wrestled with past theories and assumptions.
